Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Q) How old does my dog have to be to attend class?
a) Minimum age is 10 weeks and there is no maximum age.

Q) What topics will be covered in the class?
a)  Please see the class descriptions.

Q) How many handlers, per dog, do you allow in class?
a)
Each class builds on the previous week, therefore, while we do allow multiple handlers, the same handler(s) must attend each week. The most important element in dog training is consistency. In class, we do instruct at an adult level. Therefore, we ask that handlers in class be at least 12 years old, however, all the homework exercises are "children friendly" and your child can help with the homework - in fact, we encourage that. Our philosophy is to have a dog who behaves for all members of the family.

Q) My dog barks when it sees other dogs, should we come to a group class?
a) For a group class atmosphere, all dogs must be people and dog friendly. If the dog is friendly, but a barker, it is OK to bring it. In class, we will show you how to control unwanted barking.

Q) What will my dog learn? How far will my dog progress in the class?
a) Consistency is the key element in dog training. The owners who complete the most homework will have the dogs who progress the farthest. We ask that you complete a minimum of 20 minutes of daily homework.

Q) What vaccinations/medical procedures do you require?
a) All dogs must have had a negative fecal test within the past 6 months. All dogs must have had the Distemper/Parvo booster. Dogs over 16 weeks old are required by law to have theri rabies vaccine. Younger puppies may begin attending class prior to receiving their rabies vaccine. We do also accept titier testing.

Q) I am going to miss a class, what should I do?
a) Dog training is very hard to describe over the phone. If you miss a class, there are no make-up sessions. You can however, come to class the following week and get the handout(s) for the class missed. To ensure that you do not miss a class, it is good to check that your pet is not scheduled to be spayed/neutered during the 6 week sessions.

Q) My dog does not like other dogs, should we come to class?
a) We strive to make class enjoyable for everyone (people and dogs). All dogs must be dog and people friendly. If your dog has any aggressive issues, it is not eligible for agroup classes. Please call us to discuss private training.

Q) What experince do your instructors have? Do you have experince in my breed?
